Singer/songwriter Louise Hamilton dropped out of the University of East London to form Flaming June in 1994. She has been writing songs since the age of 15, drawing inspiration from artists as diverse as Patty Smith, Kate Bush, U2, All About Eve, The Waterboys, P J Harvey and Siouxsie and the Banshees. Louise took the name Flaming June from a Pre-Raphealite painting by Lord Leighton which bears the same name.
She met drummer Richard through an advert in Melody Maker in July 1994 and they began working on a set of songs in a rehearsal studio in East London. Desperate to get gigging they advertised in Melody Maker for bass players and Violinists.

Crafting a ferocious/pop assault from a rehearsal garage in West Lothian, Scotland, Foil came to London for their debut gig at London's Underworld in February 1996. In the audience were Daniel Miller and the Thirteenth Hour crew, who were there on the strength of a demo. So pleased were they with what they saw and heard, the four piece had been signed to the label within the week.

A short stroll through Forrester's musical past reveals how his uniqueness has developed.
Good music is unquestionably a result of good songwriting. Good songwriting is all too often wasted without a heartfelt and charismatic live performance. Forrester belongs to that rare and diminishing breed that effortlessly and consistently achieve both. He is a songwriter who is able to strip matters down to the very bare essentials of human experience - sure the good times, but also the bad.

The band was formed in early 1998 by Richard Mclean and David Wilkie. The original line up has only changed once since the start, that being the original bass guitarist David Rowles leaving the band to go to college. His shoes have since been filled by Lee Smith.
The band have performed throughout the country and have picked up numerous fans. As the band are young their musical appeal spreads from the young teenagers right through to middle age rockers who can be seen at their various gigs. Demand for the band has grown since they performed in the hugely successful Emergenza Rock Festival battle of the bands. This was held in heats throughout Europe, with the British heats in London, with some 450 British bands entered. Various heats were held throughout last year and the first six months of 1999 to whittle the numbers down. Fur Circus made it into the final and were unlucky not to win the competition outright, finishing second by 3 votes, not bad for youngsters
